Searching the catalogue
The Catalogue is searchable using the free text bar. Search terms are matched against the Title, Description, Keyword and Identifier attributes of each record.
In addition, facet searches allow you to narrow down records displayed according to your interests. These include:
- Theme – high level keywords from the Australian Governments’ Interactive Functions Thesaurus.
- Organisation – the data custodian, that is the agency responsible for and with the authority to share the data asset.
- Access rights – the level of access or restrictions applied to the data asset, either Open, Conditional or Restricted.
Once you have discovered records for data in which you are interested, clicking on the record displays more detailed information, including how to access the underlying data.
Accessing data
Records in the Catalogue include the level of access rights associated with the underlying data asset.
Assets which are recorded as Open are publicly accessible online. For these records, an internet address is provided where available to link you directly to the data. Conditional assets are also available online, but with certain restrictions. For example, users might be required to pay a fee, to register an account with a .gov.au email, or to access data in a particular physical location.
Restricted assets are not publicly available due to legal, privacy or other restrictions. Access to these data sources must be specially requested. If you choose to commence a data sharing request for restricted assets from within the Catalogue record, you will be required to sign in to Dataplace.
